Tom Coughlin: 'I'm way too young' to retire

Two-time Super Bowl-winning head coach Tom Coughlin is not calling it quits, even though he resigned from his post with the New York Giants after the 2016 season.

During an appearance on "FOX & Friends" on Monday morning, the 69-year-old Coughlin said he is still "too young" to be retired.

Vie James Kratch of NJ.com:

I'm not ret ... I don't like that word. I'm way too young for that.

This is the first offseason in which Coughlin hasn't had a team since 2003. He said he is not adjusting easily to a potential life after coaching.

It's a very difficult thing, I don't care who you are, or how long you've been doing it. I've been doing it a long time, so you get yourself into the rhythm. whole life, the calendar of your life is based on football, about the seasons, whether it's in-season or out of season. You have a schedule that you follow. So there's some adjusting for me to make.

Coughlin was the head coach of the Giants from 2004-2015 and led them to victories in Super owl XLII and XLVI. Before that, he was head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars for their first eight seasons in existence (1995-2002). He turned that franchise expansion into an AFC Championship contender in just a couple years, bolstering what very well may be a Hall of Fame resume.

The Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers expressed interest in Coughlin for their head-coaching vacancies last month, but both teams ended up hiring different candidates for the job. Perhaps the tireless coach will resurface elsewhere in the future.
