Oddsmakers put Giants at 8-1 to repeat

Published Feb. 6, 2012 12:00 a.m. ET

Las Vegas oddsmakers say the Philadelphia Eagles have a better chance of winning Super Bowl XLVII than the new champs, the New York Giants.

Eagles' fans grimaced in pain Sunday night as the Giants beat New England 21-17 in Super Bowl XLVI. That makes 12 Super Bowls rings in the NFC East — but not a single ring in Philadelphia.

But as the new season unfolds, the oddsmakers have picked the Eagles as the third favorite to make it to the Louisiana Super Dome and win in February 2013.

The favorites are the New England Patriots at 5-1, with the Packers next at 11-2.

The Pittsburgh Steelers and the Eagles are listed at 6-1, followed by the Giants at 8-1.

The New Orleans Saints and San Francisco 49ers have 10-1 odds of winning the Super Bowl, with the San Diego Chargers and Houston Texans at 12-1.

The worst teams in the NFL will be Jacksonville and the Washington Redskins, say the oddsmakers.

The Eagles finished 8-8 last season and look ready to stick with pretty much the same team heading into September 2012.
