Giants LT Ereck Flowers: Hip flexor is 'a lot better'

Published Aug. 14, 2015 10:13 a.m. ET

The New York Giants are counting on big things from rookie offensive tackle Ereck Flowers in 2015. They are expecting him to step right in at left tackle in place of the injured Will Beatty. Flowers missed time with a hip flexor injury earlier in camp, but after making it back for a few practices in a row, he confirmed that the injury is almost behind him now.

"Yeah, it’s gotten a lot better than what it was," Flowers told reporters, per Big Blue Interactive.

After participating in the joint practices with the Bengals, Flowers is all set to give it a go during the Giants' preseason opener on Friday night. The rookie is excited for his first opportunity to prove that he can protect Eli Manning's blindside.

"I’m excited, first game, so I came in, got some good work. I’m looking forward to tomorrow. I’m not the type of guy to want to miss games. It’s a big deal."

Flowers will match up with a veteran Bengals defensive line that is sure to bring out their best on Friday night. If Flowers expects to have seen everything they have to offer during the joint practices, he will be sorely mistaken. It will be just as important to see how Flowers bounces back from adversity, it is to come, in Friday night's preseason debut.
