Jacobs sorry for comments about Gisele
New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs apologized Wednesday for saying Gisele Bundchen should "be cute and shut up."
The supermodel was extremely critical of the Patriots receivers after they dropped several passes delivered by her quarterback husband Tom Brady in their 21-17 Super Bowl XLVI loss to the Giants Sunday.
"My husband cannot (expletive) throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time," Bundchen said as she was leaving Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, responding to taunts from Giants fans. "I can't believe they dropped the ball so many times."
During Tuesday's MetLife Stadium rally celebrating the Giants' Super Bowl win, Jacobs told reporters, "She just needs to continue to be cute and shut up."
But speaking on ESPN's "The Doug Gottlieb Show" a day later, Jacobs said he should have been more respectful.
"Given the fact that it's a colleague of mine's wife, I do apologize for saying that, because I shouldn't have said that," Jacobs said.
"It's his wife and I should respect that just as much as anyone else."
Jacobs did, however, stand by his comments about her appearance.
"No question, (Brady) should take that as a compliment," Jacobs said. "If he finds something wrong with that, then that's his problem."
Although Bundchen mentioned no names, she almost certainly was referring to wide receiver Wes Welker — who was judged widely to have made the costliest fourth-quarter drop — along with a spilled catch by tight end Aaron Hernandez.
