Rob Gronkowski dealing with back injury in addition to knee

Published Jan. 14, 2016 7:17 p.m. ET

Rob Gronkowski missed practice once again on Thursday after being limited on Wednesday, but this appears to be a new injury. The Patriots updated their injury report Thursday evening, listing Gronkowski as a non-participant. Unlike the reports from earlier in the week, Gronkowski missed practice due to a back injury in addition to his knee issue.

It's unclear how severe the injuries are, as the Patriots could just be acting on the side of caution with their star tight end. They've apparently been serious enough to keep him out of practice multiple times this week, putting his status for Saturday in question.

In all likelihood Gronk will be out there, but it's surprising to see him missing practice this late in the week -- especially with the game being on Saturday rather than Sunday. This new injury is certainly worth keeping an eye on in the next few days leading up to the game.
