Patriots WR Danny Amendola (knee) returns to practice: 'I feel good'

Published Dec. 2, 2015 2:21 p.m. ET

The New England Patriots only used two wide receivers in their loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday night. Having two tight ends like Rob Gronkowski and Scott Chandler helps, but it's clear the Patriots need their wide receivers to get healthy in a hurry.

On Wednesday, they moved a step closer to the return of one key player on offense. Wide receiver Danny Amendola missed Week 12 due to a knee injury suffered two weeks ago, but he returned to practice on Wednesday and seems to be in good spirits.

“I’ll get out there today and run around and know more, but I feel good," Amendola said via WEEI. "I can’t put a number on it, or a percentage, but I feel OK to go out there today and run around."

Amendola still isn't certain to play this week against the Philadelphia Eagles, but he's making progress towards doing just that. This season, he's caught 49 passes for 520 yards and two touchdowns despite making just seven starts.

Fortunately, he avoided serious injury two weeks ago, but it was still enough to keep him out for a game.

“I didn’t think it was bad at first and then I couldn’t run, turn over my legs at a high rate, so I knew I was going to have to [stop playing],” he said. “I wasn’t going to hobble around out there and get killed.”
