Patriots work out former Colts RB Boom Herron

The New England Patriots worked out former Indianapolis Colts running back Dan "Boom" Herron on Monday, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN.

After coming into the league with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2012 as a sixth-round pick, Herron didn't see much time on the field until 2014. Last season, he played in all 16 games for the Colts, carrying the ball 78 times for 351 yards and one touchdown -- although he also lost two fumbles.

Herron was waived by the Colts in September due to a shoulder injury suffered in the preseason. The Patriots don't have a need at running back with Dion Lewis, LeGarrette Blount, James White, and Brandon Boldeon on the roster, but it's typical for a team to work out players during the week.
