Namath says he suffered long-term effects from concussions

Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Namath said during a CBS interview that he suffered some long-term effects from concussions he sustained during his playing days.

"I've been through some things medically," said the former Jets star, who led the franchise to its only Super Bowl title, in an interview for "CBS Sunday Morning With Charles Osgood." "I've seen some things on my brain. But I've had some treatment, and I've improved. None of the body was designed to play football. Excuse me, you know, football, we're just not designed for."

Namath is known for guaranteeing that the Jets would top the heavily favored Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III. Namath, who was named MVP of the game, led New York to a 16-7 win, which cemented his legacy and helped him earn the moniker of Broadway Joe.

Namath played all but one season during his 13-year with the Jets. He finished his career in 1977 as a member of the Rams.
