Vikings' Mike Zimmer: 'We've got a lot of good corners'

The Minnesota Vikings have plenty of playmakers at the cornerback position. Bolstering a secondary that already featured third-year pro Xavier Rhodes, the Vikings added veteran Terence Newman in free agency and first-round selection Trae Waynes in the draft this offseason.

With Rhodes and Newman slated to start on the outsides -- with Captain Munnerlyn manning the slot -- most of the focus has been on Waynes and his pursuit of a starting role. Behind them, however, some pretty solid depth has quietly come together.

"I like our corners," Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer said, per Mark Craig of the Star-Tribune. "I think we’ve got a lot of good corners that have a chance. Josh Thomas has come in and he’s shown some things. DeMarcus Van Dyke is a guy, all those guys that we have now are guys that can really run, can really accelerate. We’re starting to get some length in there, so all of these guys have a chance."

Zimmer went into detail on what he likes about Thomas, citing "quickness, acceleration and speed" as his finest attributes.

Thomas, 26, was a fifth-round draft pick of the Dallas Cowboys in 2011, but he spent his first three NFL seasons with the Carolina Panthers. He spent time with the Seattle Seahawks, New York Jets and Detroit Lions last year, before signing with the Vikings this offseason.
