Stats show sharp decline for Vikings WR Diggs over last four games

Rookie wide receiver Stefon Diggs got off to an explosive start with the Minnesota Vikings, but he has simmered down considerably since then. Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press took a look at Diggs' production over his first four NFL games, then compared them to his statistics in the next four games.

Diggs no longer has the element of surprise working in his favor. Now that the fifth-round draft pick has made a little noise, teams know who he is and are able to game plan against him. He should draw a little more attention than your average rookie, considering the record-setting start to his career.

Also, it's tough to get Diggs more targets when the Vikings are putting the ball in Adrian Peterson's hands as much as possible (31 offensive touches in Week 12). As impressive as the 22-year-old receiver has been, he doesn't deserve a cut of Peterson's workload just yet.

Even though Diggs' numbers are going down, he's still Minnesota's leading receiver with 604 yards and two touchdowns on 40 receptions. His hot start may seem like a flash in the pan, but the rookie wideout is still grinding and playing his role well in a run-centric offense.
