Vikes put QB Jackson on IR, sign Ramsey

Published Dec. 16, 2010 12:00 a.m. ET

The Minnesota Vikings have placed QB Tarvaris Jackson (toe) on injured reserve. To take his place on the 53-man roster, the Vikings signed veteran QB Patrick Ramsey. The team also added CB Simeon Castille to the practice squad.

With Jackson gone and starting QB Brett Favre unlikely to play again this season, the team is expected to turn to rookie Joe Webb to start this week’s game against the visiting Chicago Bears.

Webb, a sixth-round pick out of UAB, put together a terrific set of practices during Senior Bowl week earlier this year. However, he did so at wide receiver, not at quarterback.

Former Vikings head coach Brad Childress moved Webb to wide receiver during the team’s OTA practices after this year’s NFL Draft.

Ramsey is expected to handle the No. 2 role this week.
