Vikings lose starting LT Jake Long to season-ending Achilles injury

Published Nov. 15, 2016 1:40 p.m. ET

The Minnesota Vikings lost their fourth straight game Sunday and surrendered first place in the NFC North to the Detroit Lions in doing so. Their loss to Redskins obviously hurts, but they suffered another key injury on offense.

Mike Zimmer announced after the game that tackle Jake Long hurt his Achilles and is out for the season. He was carted off the field late in Sunday’s game.

This news comes after the Vikings had already lost Matt Kalil and Andre Smith for the year – their previous two starters at the tackle spots.

Long signed with the Vikings last month but struggled early on. He had been playing well recently, which makes this loss hurt even more. Now, the Vikings have no choice but to push through another crushing injury.
