Report: Brock Vereen signed onto Vikings' practice squad

Published Oct. 1, 2015 9:47 a.m. ET

Former Chicago Bears safety Brock Vereen has signed with the Minnesota Vikings as a member of their practice squad, according to Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press.

The Bears cut Vereen this week, after he failed to earn a starting job in his second season. As a rookie last year, Vereen played all 16 games (four starts), recorded 30 tackles, intercepted one pass and forced a fumble. He has not registered a single stat yet in 2015.

The Bears had little use for Vereen, as they turn their focus to the future. The Vikings, however, happily picked him up for their practice squad. He could get called up to Minnesota's active roster before this season is over, considering the team's drop-off in talent at safety after Harrison Smith.

Vereen, 23, was a fourth-round pick out of Minnesota in last year's draft, so he has a connection to the area and is not far removed from it.
