Peterson active for Vikings

Published Dec. 18, 2011 12:00 a.m. ET

Adrian Peterson is active for the Minnesota Vikings in their game against the New Orleans Saints, who are missing running back Mark Ingram for the second straight week with turf toe.

Peterson returns to the lineup after missing three straight games with a sprained left ankle. He was listed as probable on Friday, as was rookie quarterback Christian Ponder, who is starting after being hampered the last two weeks with a hip pointer.

Ingram has rushed for 474 yards and five touchdowns in his first season after the Saints chose the Heisman Trophy winner in the first round out of Alabama. He missed last week's game against the Titans as well.

Saints linebacker Jonathan Casillas also is out with a right knee injury.
