Miami Dolphins won't activate Dion Jordan in 2016

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 8:20 p.m. ET

It was reported yesterday that Dion Jordan won’t be activated in the 2016 season.  This’ll be Jordan’s second consecutive season without seeing game action.

I visited the possibility of the Miami Dolphin’s activating Jordan this season a couple week back.  At the time they had three weeks to make their decision.  Instead of bringing him on board Jordan will remain on the non-football injury list for the rest of 2016.

The decision paints one of two pictures of Miami’s thoughts on Jordan: the organization either doesn’t have a need for the outside linebacker/defensive lineman hybrid or they don’t feel he’s at a state – both physically and mentally – to compete.

Jordan is a freak when healthy.  His combination of size and speed is hard to find which is why Miami traded up for him in the 2013 NFL draft.

Next season will be Jordan’s last to prove his worth in Miami.  His rookie contract is set to expire as is any hope from Dolphin’s fans.  Head coach Adam Gase and the rest of the coaching staff will need to see a lot for Jordan to keep him in South Florida after 2017.
