Dolphins rookie Jamil Douglas unseats Billy Turner as starting RG

Miami Dolphins rookie guard Jamil Douglas was battling Dallas Thomas at left guard for most of training camp, but he was unable to beat him out for the starting job.

Instead, Douglas will unseat right guard Billy Turner as the starting right guard after taking snaps with the first-team offense on Tuesday. Douglas was informed that he's the new starter -- for now.

"I was honored they feel that way about me," Douglas said via Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. "I know I’ve got to keep coming out every week and proving myself. If you look at the tape, I’ve been able to get better every week. That’s the main thing I want to show the coaches, that I can keep getting better each week."

Douglas played left guard and left tackle in college at Arizona State before he was selected in the fourth round by the Dolphins. He has taken reps at both guard spots in training camp, most of which came on the left side. It's somewhat of a surprising move to see Turner bumped from the starting lineup, but he had been struggling of late.

Douglas will join Ju'Waun James, Branden Albert, Mike Pouncey, and Dallas Thomas as the starters on the offensive line -- a unit which has plenty of room for improvement. Turner was understandably disappointed to hear of his demotion, but he realizes there's still a chance he could work his way back into the starting group.

"I’ve got a lot of things to work on," Turner said. "No one is perfect at the game. I did some things well. I did some things poorly."

Douglas and the offensive line will get their first test against the Washington Redskins in Week 1.
