Dolphins iconic coach Don Shula hospitalized for breathing problems

Former Miami Dolphins head coach Don Shula was hospitalized Monday night for fluid retention and sleep apnea, a disorder that disrupts breathing while asleep.

Shula's wife confirmed her husband's ailments in a statement Tuesday. She said the family "is looking for a speedy recovery."

NFL Network reported that Shula was discharged from the South Florida hospital Tuesday.

Shula, who was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1997, amassed an NFL-record 347 victories during his 33 seasons while coaching the Dolphins and Colts. He guided the Dolphins to the only perfect season in league history in 1972. He retired following the 1995 season.
