Miami Dolphins Branden Albert injury shakes up offensive line

The Miami Dolphins are shaking up their offensive line ahead of playing the Los Angeles Rams as left tackle Branden Albert will be sidelined for the next two to three weeks.

Albert broke his wrist in last Sunday’s win in San Diego. He was able to return to the game with a soft cast but doctors would not clear him to play this week and it’s likely that three weeks is the earliest he will return.

With Albert out many believe that it will be Laremy Tunsil sliding outside. Tunsil played LT in college and is expected to replace Albert in the next season or two. More on that in a moment.

Taking Tunsil’s place at LG will be Kraig Urbik who has played well in spot duty this season. Urbik will have his hands full with a strong L.A. front defensive line. The Dolphins offensive line has been extremely productive in the rushing game and protective of Ryan Tannehill during this four game winning streak.

Earlier this year Albert missed time and was replaced by Tunsil who struggled early before playing better towards the end. The question now becomes what happens if Tunsil plays well in Albert’s extended absence?

Next season Albert will cost the Dolphins $10.6 million at the age of 33. The Dolphins would save all but $3 million of that salary if they released him. It’s also entirely possible that Miami reworks the contract as well. A lot of what happens down the road will hinge on how well Tunsil picks up the left outside.
