Miami Dolphins activate Earl Mitchell from IR

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Mitchell was place on IR early in the season with a calf injury and needed to remain on IR for at least eight weeks. The Dolphins have decided to use their one player return option on Mitchell. It will provide more depth to the defensive line.

The news is good for Miami who could use all the help they can get in stopping the run. They were gashed for 134 yards last week by the Jets and are ranked third to last in run defense this season.

In other Dolphins news wide-receiver Jarvis Landry missed time on Thursday with a shoulder injury. It’s unclear how serious the injury is and it does bring into question his availability for Sunday’s Chargers game. Landry is the Dolphins best offensive weapon. Kenny Stills also missed practice with a calf injury but it’s not reportedly serious.
