SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) The Mayor of Santa Clara says he is retiring as of Tuesday, just two days after his city hosted Super Bowl 50.

Mayor Jamie Matthews says he is retiring because he wants to spend more time with his family and that health issues are not a factor in his decision.

He says he wants to ''take a breath and see what the next chapter is for me.''

Matthews made the announcement at a news conference Monday.
