Rams DE Robert Quinn hospitalized with non-football illness

Los Angeles Rams defensive end Robert Quinn was hospitalized with a non-football-related illness, but head coach Jeff Fisher said "things look encouraging" for the sixth-year veteran.

Quinn played in the Rams' 9–6 win over the New York Jets, and admitted himself to a local hospital after the team returned home.

Fisher did not disclose why Quinn was hospitalized, but added it was "highly unlikely” that it was related to any previous issue. Quinn was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor in high school.

"I spoke with Rob several hours ago, in addition to Christina, his wife,” Fisher said. “He was, in fact, admitted to the hospital this morning for tests. He’s feeling much better. He kept saying to me over and over, ‘Coach, I just want to get back and get my body right and get back to the practice field as fast as I can.’ So, we’re still undergoing tests, and things look encouraging.”

Quinn, 26, was a first-round pick by the Rams in 2011. In his first three seasons, he recorded 40 sacks and was rewarded with a six-year, $65.6 million contract, with $41.2 million in guarantees.

He has played in seven games this year, and has two sacks, two forced fumbles and two pass deflections for Los Angeles (4–5).

“Well, it affects us,” Fisher said. “But I’m encouraged from the medical information I’ve gotten thus far. So we certainly haven’t ruled them out. And I think both of them have a chance to play."

Los Angeles plays the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.
