Baylor's 405-pound tight end could be heaviest player ever drafted in NFL

Published Mar. 21, 2016 9:52 a.m. ET

Former Baylor tight end LaQuan McGowan was listed as 410 pounds for his senior season in Waco, where he played as the biggest receiver in the country. McGowan was not invited to the NFL combine, but he's not giving up on his NFL dream.

According to NFL.com, McGowan put on a show at Baylor's Pro Day, running the 40-yard-dash in just 5.41 seconds. That time would have placed McGowan near the tail end of offensive linemen who participated in the 2016 combine, but McGowan ran faster than a few players almost 100 pounds lighter than him.

Should McGowan be drafted, he'd be the heaviest player selected in history. According to Pro Football Talk, former Lions OL Aaron Gibson - who weighed as much as 410 pounds - is the heaviest player to appear in an NFL game.

McGowan would likely only be able to play tight end in goal-line situations in the NFL, but his ridiculous athleticism given his size could allow him to succeed as a lineman.
