The Kansas City Chiefs are an enigma of a team, one week they play great the other poor. With the New Orleans Saints coming to Arrowhead this Sunday what are three things the team must do to win?

The Kansas City Chiefs have had the very definition of an up and down season. They come up with a big win, only to see the themselves get hammered the next week. With all the up and downs this team has, when they are on they are on, and when they are bad, oof they are bad.

This week the New Orleans Saints come into Arrowhead to take on the Chiefs, what are three keys to victory for Kansas City in order to win?

The Saints are currently 2-3 but you would never know it by the stats they are putting up every week.

Ranking first in passing (335.4 yards per game) and second total yards per game (413.4) as well has second in points per game at 31. Quarterback Drew Brees has been called over the hill and people question his arm strength but there is not a week that goes by when there is not a huge pass play.

With that in mind the first key to victory for the Kansas City Chiefs is to stop the big play. New Orleans is filled with playmakers, from their quarterback to their wide receivers. Players like Brandin Cooks and Coby Fleener give Brees two big targets to throw to. Every week there is a big play out of this team sometime during the game and if the Chiefs are going to win this weekend this is the first step.

The Kansas City Chiefs are known for their run game. Over the past few seasons they have had one of the better backfields in the NFL, this is no exception.

Running back Spencer Ware is making a case for one of the best in the league this year. Ware is currently averaging 5.3 yards per carry which is fourth in the NFL and averaging 83 yards per game. Fellow running back Jamaal Charles has been slowly getting back into the game as well and should look to have his touches increase as we get further along in the season.

This team finds their identity in the run game. The run is everything. The Saints come into this weekend ranked 26th overall against the run, this is where the team needs to find their stride. A heavy combination of Ware and Charles should keep the Saints defense on the ropes and with any luck could be the key factor to bringing the win to the good guys.

Okay this one’s a gimme, but it rings true every single game of every single week in the NFL, play mistake free football.

Kansas City Chiefs Quarterback Alex Smith does a great job of protecting the ball. Yes there have been some slips this year, but for the most part he plays mistake free. Perhaps the biggest area that the Chiefs have struggled with is the fumbles. Ware has lost three fumbles this year alone, a trait he never showed before. That is why you are seeing him hold tightly onto that ball like his life depends on it.

Playing with little or no mistakes could very well be the biggest key, even though it is the most obvious. A team like the Saints always have the home run play just waiting in their back pocket. KC needs to limit blown coverages and missed opportunities to get ahead of the Saints in what should be a tough fought game.

The Kansas City Chiefs have shown they know how to win ball games. This is a winnable game against a hot and cold team in the Saints. While there are many keys to victory for the Kansas City Chiefs if these three are met, this should be a good game against a good opponent.
