The Chiefs admit their kicking game is broken -- and that's a start

The Kansas City Chiefs have some serious kicking game issues that need addressing.

So said head coach Andy Reid after watching another dismal output last Sunday.

Reid, via ESPN: “We’ve been a little inconsistent the last couple of weeks on the snaps. We’ve got to fix that, go back to basics and fundamentals there."

Maybe a back-to-basics approach can save the team's most glaring Achilles' heel. They've botched three point-after attempts and missed two field goal attempts in the past four games.

Reid singled out long-snapper James Winchester, who was high on a field-goal miss by kicker Cairo Santos. Punter Dustin Colquitt also mishandled a snap in recent weeks.

Kansas City could also benefit from dry game conditions. Their next game in Baltimore figures to be their first one without pouring rain in about a month.

Said Reid: “Nothing is automatic when humans are involved in it. You’ve got to focus in on it and you’ve got to concentrate and work your techniques, make sure your hands are following through the proper way, all the little things you need to do to stay consistent at it. Then you add (rainy) weather into it and now you go back and you bank on those fundamentals, trust those things."
