Suspect in Joe McKnight killing jailed on manslaughter charge

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

The suspect in the killing of former NFL running back Joe McKnight was arrested for manslaughter on Monday and is currently in jail, records show

McKnight was shot to death Thursday after an apparent road rage incident and the suspect, Ronald Gasser, was initially released without charges.

Authorities’ account of the killing differs from that of an unnamed female witness. The witness said both men argued outside their cars before the shooting, and that Gasser stood over McKnight’s body and fired another shot before saying “I told you don't you f--- with me.” Jefferson Parish sheriff Newell Normand said evidence suggested Gasser fired from inside his car.
