Jets hire Brant Boyer as special teams coordinator
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) The New York Jets have hired former Indianapolis Colts assistant Brant Boyer as their special teams coordinator, replacing the fired Bobby April on Todd Bowles' coaching staff.
Boyer, a former NFL linebacker, was the Colts' assistant special teams coach since 2012. He was also a training camp intern with Cleveland (2009) and the Giants (2010).
The hiring Wednesday gives the Jets their fifth special teams coordinator in five years. Mike Westhoff retired after the 2012 season and was replaced by Ben Kotwica, who went to Washington after one year. Thomas McGaughey was let go along with most of the staff when Rex Ryan was fired in 2014.
Boyer was a sixth-round pick of Miami in 1994 and also played for Jacksonville (1995-2000) and Cleveland (2001-03).
