Jeff Fisher warns his team about potential issues during time off

Published Jun. 22, 2015 6:16 p.m. ET

St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher has been around the NFL a long time. He knows the period when teams break for minicamp and don't start up again until training camp is a dangerous time for NFL players.

Fisher does not assume all will go well off the field no matter what kind of team he has in front of him, so he makes sure to fully inform his players of all the things that could go wrong while they are away from the team for over a month.

“Well, it starts with wave runners, then it moves over to four wheelers, then it goes to family picnics and all that stuff, water skiing and all that," Fisher said. "Then it goes into the off-the-field stuff and be smart. Those messages are being sent as we speak.”

Fisher actually keep stats about which position groups are the most likely to get injured or in trouble during their time away from the team.

"We basically throw the stats up," Fisher said. "We have statistics by position groups. I have statistics based on months and years of experience in the league."

Fisher didn't want to expand on his stats, but did make it abundantly clear what side of the ball he is worried about most during this time off.

"I’ll just say (defensive coordinator Gregg) Williams has his hands full," Fisher said.
