Report: Jay Cutler undergoing tests for shoulder injury, could miss rest of season

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler may miss the remainder of the season with a shoulder injury that he sustained in Sunday's 22–16 loss to the New York Giants, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Cutler was sacked five times against New York but still managed to finish the game.

Cutler is undergoing tests to determine the severity of the injury and the Bears are expected to learn more about his status, according to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport.

The Bears are prepared to turn to Matt Barkley in his absence. Barkley has six of 15 passes completed on the season for 81 yards and two touchdowns.

Cutler previously missed time this season after suffering a thumb injury in Week 2. He returned five weeks later. Back-up quarterback Brian Hoyer also sustained a broken forearm against the Packers on Oct. 20.

The Bears will face the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.
