Jaguars sign 6th-round picks Allen, Holmes to contracts
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed both of their sixth-round draft picks, quarterback Brandon Allen and defensive end Tyrone Holmes.
The players signed their deals Thursday, after rookies reported for a three-day orientation.
Allen was the 201st overall pick in last week's draft. He threw for 7,463 yards in four years at Arkansas. As a senior in n 2015, he led the Southeastern Conference in passer rating and yards per attempt. He is expected to compete with Chad Henne for the backup job to starter Blake Bortles.
Holmes was the 181st overall choice. The Montana standout recorded 87 tackles as a senior, including 21 1/2 tackles for loss and 18 sacks, which led the Football Championship Subdivision. He is expected to vie for playing time behind 2015 first-round pick Dante Fowler Jr.
