Hue Jackson, Sashi Brown remain patient with 0-10 start

Hue Jackson and Sashi Brown spoke with the media on Monday about the future of the Cleveland Browns after the 0-10 start.

After yet another disappointing loss to the Baltimore Ravens this past week, the questions of Hue Jackson’s future in Cleveland are gaining traction. Browns fans are not pleased by the team’s effort as the losses are adding up quickly. The defense has been atrocious and the offense provides little-to-zero consistency throughout the season.

Head coach Jackson had several uncharacteristic exchanges with media members after the game Thursday. This stems from his decision to replace Cody Kessler with Josh McCown one drive into the second half of the game. McCown threw two interceptions and gave up a fumble as well after Kessler, who led the Browns to a 7-6 halftime lead, was pulled.

Monday offered an opportunity for Jackson and Executive Vice President of Football Operations Sashi Brown to talk to the media about the first ten weeks of the season. It was what a fan would expect from a team that sits at 0-10 with little reason to believe a win is coming in the near future.

Sashi Brown was asked about the possibility of Cleveland going 0-16 and how that would play into Hue Jackson’s future with the team.

“We are not focused on 0-16,” Sashi Brown said in Monday’s press conference. “Hue is going to be here as our head coach. We talked about continuity being one of the core premises of what we wanted accomplished going out in January. We know that we have a head coach that can be successful here and lead us to a lot of victories and a lot of winning.”

Head coach Hue Jackson said in his presser that the team is obviously unhappy with the production this far.

“We are all disappointed and probably to a person a little embarrassed by it. Don’t like it, but I think we all understand the only people that can change our circumstances are the guys in that room.”

It’s clear that the effort has been inconsistent, although this Browns team plays exceptionally harder than last season’s. On top of that, the Browns have developed a number of playmakers including Terrelle Pryor who is turning into a true No. 1 receiver.

The front office remains adamant that Hue Jackson’s job is safe — for now. Nobody has yet said he will be the coach next season, but the Browns should without a doubt keep the former Bengals coordinator. Under Jackson, the team has developed a culture that previous regimes lacked despite the three-to-four win seasons.

This team was not meant to win in 2016 due to the youth movement and inexperience. Although zero wins after ten weeks is unacceptable, the Browns are in phase one of their rebuild and have been looking forward to the next few drafts since Jackson’s hire. The front office knew the next two years were a rebuild while developing the few dozen draft picks.

Hue Jackson and Sashi Brown are understandably frustrated, however, the two remain patient with their plan for the future. Hue Jackson has done more good than bad despite the amount on his plate and job security shouldn’t be a question.
