Houston Texans: C.J. Fiedorowicz improved play a huge plus

Since Bill O’Brien became head coach the Houston Texans have struggled to find a solid tight end, but C.J. Fiedorowicz has developed into just that

Following the 2013 season, the Houston Texans said goodbye to the best tight end the young franchise ever employed, Owen Daniels. He was let go as part of the youth movement of their new head coach, Bill O’Brien.

Since that move took place, Houston has yet to feature a solid option in the receiving game at the position. That is until the first half of the 2016 season.

After having just 21 receptions for 195 yards and two touchdowns in his first two season, C.J. Fiedorowicz has burst onto the scene this year with 26 receptions for 279 yards and three scores.

Fiedorowicz was a third round selection back in 2014 and was one of the more promising talents at his position coming out of Iowa. Since entering the league he has spent a lot of time on the field for Houston, but up until this season he made his mark primarily as a blocking tight end.

At 6-foot-5 and 265 pounds he still is a stellar contributor in this regard. This season however he has turned into an all around talent at the position by surpassing all his career totals in just eight games.

Coming into the season there were some questions as to who would be the top guy at tight end. Fiedorowicz was competing with fellow veteran Ryan Griffin and rookie free agent Stephen Anderson. In the end it’s the former Hawkeye who has seen the most action.

Fiedorowicz has become a solid contributor who delivers clutch catches over the middle of the field. He was also an integral piece in the come-from-behind victory on Sunday Night Football earlier in the season against the Indianapolis Colts.

If Houston is going to hold off the competition and win the AFC South for the second season in a row, they need players like C.J. to step up. It’s been nice to see him do just that to this point.
