Haden says Gipson won't hold out on Browns

Tashaun Gipson hasn't been seen anywhere near Browns headquarters during the team's recent voluntary workouts, but Joe Haden believes the free safety will return once the voluntary label is removed.

Gipson, a restricted free agent, is reportedly unhappy with his contract situation. The Browns slapped a second-round tender on the first-time Pro Bowl selection this offseason while Gipson wants a long-term deal.

"I don’t think he’s thinking about holding out of training camp," Haden told CBS Cleveland Friday at the Cleveland Browns Foundation golf outing. "It’s a business and sometimes when the players do their part of it, being a business it looks a little foggy. I think he’s going to be OK. He understands what’s going on. He’s going to be out there for training camp for sure."

Gipson was leading the league in interceptions in 2014 when he went down with a season-ending knee injury in Week 12 against Atlanta.

Defensive coordinator Jim O'Neil said last week that Gipson is in danger of falling behind by not being at workouts with the rest of the secondary.

If Gipson doesn't sign his tender by June 15, the team can cut the tender amount of $2.356 million down to 110 percent of his 2014 salary, which would be right around $627,000.

That right there is more than 1.7 million reasons to believe that Haden is correct.
