Green Bay Packers News: Knile Davis cut after two weeks

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

The Green Bay Packers have moved on from Knile Davis, and find themselves in the middle of a heated NFC playoff battle.

Good morning and welcome to the “Titletown Report” for Tuesday. Here you’ll find all of the latest Packers news and analysis from around the internet.

Still fresh in the mind is Sunday’s heartbreaking loss to the Atlanta Falcons. While it was a disappointing and crushing defeat, there were a number of positives to take from the game, No. 1 being the much-improved play on offense. Aaron Rodgers looks like Aaron Rodgers, and that’s exactly what Green Bay needs to return to the postseason.

Let’s get started. As you sip your coffee this fine Tuesday morning, enjoy these articles from around the internet.

Packers spinning wheels in NFC playoff race — Ryan Wood of Packersnews.com

The NFC playoff race is tight right now, and the Packers are right in the middle of it. At 4-3, Green Bay currently sits in a wild-card spot, but there is a long way to go. Picking up wins over the next four-game stretch (Colts, at Titans, at Redskins, at Eagles) will be key.

Packers cut Knile Davis — Tom Silverstein of Packersnews.com

Just two weeks after trading for Knile Davis, the Packers have cut the former Chiefs running back. Green Bay is unlikely to give anything back to Kansas City after the conditions in the trade weren’t met. This could signal Ty Montgomery will be ready to go this week.

Mike McCarthy: ‘We’re not going to make a living with Aaron Rodgers running the football’ — Rob Demovsky of ESPN

Aaron Rodgers rushed for 60 yards on Sunday. Well, that’s one way to get the ground game going. It’s not a sustainable way to move the ball on the ground, however, and Mike McCarthy doesn’t want this to become a regular feature on offense. While Rodgers extending plays and moving the chains with his legs is good, McCarthy wants his offense to not need 12 to make so many rushes.

And finally: Jared Cook making progress, according to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky…

Demovsky wrote:

Packers TE Jared Cook is “making a lot of progress,” coach Mike McCarthy said. “He took a big step toward getting back.” Still may be a long shot to practice this week but did most extensive rehab on his ankle last week.

The Packers need him back.
