Packers sign undrafted WR James Butler

As the fallout from Jordy Nelson's season-ending knee injury continues, the Green Bay Packers bolstered their wide receiver corps by signing undrafted free agent James Butler on Thursday. The Packers announced the acquisition on their official Twitter account.

Butler is a 6-foot-2, 215-pound Louisiana-Lafayette product who ran a 4.54-second 40-yard dash at his pro day in March, according to NFLDraftScout.com. He wasn't invited to any rookie minicamps this spring, so he's trying to make the most of what may only be a brief opportunity with the Packers.

"It taught me there's always a tomorrow," Butler said about the long wait, according to Weston Hodkiewicz of Press-Gazette Media. "No other words to describe it, it's a blessing. I know there's a week left of camp, so I just have to show what I have in that short period of time."

Butler, who will wear No. 13, played in 51 games at Louisiana-Lafayette and caught 87 passes for 1,130 yards and four touchdowns. Upon signing with the Packers, he has been reunited with former Ragin' Cajuns in defensive end Christian Ringo and running back Alonzo Harris.
