Green Bay Packers DE Datone Jones tried telling police he was a first-round pick

A new report from Press-Gazette Media details the trouble Green Bay Packers defensive end Datone Jones got himself into earlier this offseason, including his unsuccessful attempt to use star power to get out of a ticket for marijuana possession.

The report says Jones' ticket was written just seven hours after the Packers' loss to the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship game. Green Bay Police Lt. Chad Ramos said Jones "became emotionally upset, and told officers he was the first-round draft pick of the Green Bay Packers."

Jones' plea didn't work on the officers. He was convicted Feb. 10 and paid an $880 fine, according to the report. The 2013 first-rounder has since been suspended by the league for one game, so he'll be on the sideline in street clothes when the Packers open up the season against the Chicago Bears on Sept. 13.
