Former Minnesota Vikings running back Caleb King has been charged with assault for allegedly punching a man outside a birthday party in April.

The Anoka County Attorney's Office charged King with third- and fifth-degree assault.

According to the complaint, the man was waiting for a ride home after the party in Oak Grove on April 28 when King accused him of calling him names.

The complaint says King punched the man in the face and then pulled him out of a car by his neck.

Prosecutors say the 22-year-old man suffered a skull fracture and needed 19 stiches.

The Vikings cut King three days after his arrest. The 24-year-old was a highly touted recruit at Georgia.

King is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 11. His agent did not immediately return a phone message Friday.
