The Giants said Monday that Hulmes, their onetime assistant general manager, had passed away on Sunday. No cause of death was given by the Giants.

Hulmes joined the Giants in 1984 as an assistant to then-general manager George Young. He later became a special assistant to the general manager, but left that post in 1998, becoming a player personnel scout. He retired following the 2008 season.

Virtually all of his personnel experience was in the NFL, including 12 years with the Baltimore Colts and 13 with the New Orleans Saints. Hulmes also was chief operating officer of the Arizona Wranglers of the USFL.
