Justin Forsett and DeAndre Levy are among the notable absences for the Lions in today’s huge rivalry battle with the Minnesota Vikings, which will be for NFC North supremacy, but Riddick is not on the inactive list.
Prior to Thursday, Riddick was feared to be out for today’s game. The Lions kept his status well-guarded, listing him questionable on the injury report with an ankle injury. Several other players were listed on the injury report, too, so it looks like this was a ploy from Bob Quinn and Jim Caldwell to keep the Vikings on their toes.
Riddick had just 13 yards on four carries last week against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but one of the league’s elite receiving backs also piled up eight receptions for 70 yards.
The former sixth-round pick out of Notre Dame has 43 receptions and four receiving touchdowns this season. Matthew Stafford and the Lions run a quick-hitting passing attack that is low on air yards, so look for Riddick to be a big factor in today’s game. This is a guy who had three receiving scores and 80 receptions for 697 yards last season, and Minnesota is well-aware of the damage he can cause with the ball in his hands.
