Fan Mock Draft: Whom should the Chiefs select No. 23 overall?

The Kansas City Chiefs are on the clock.

The Chiefs produced one of the most remarkable turnarounds for a franchise last season, but were a quick out in the postseason.

While head coach Andy Reid is an offensive mastermind, the passing game struggled to find its rhythm at times. What’s more, the Chiefs lost key veterans, including Pro Bowl left tackle Branden Albert, guard Jon Asamoah and defensive end Tyson Jackson to free agency.

In a division where each team got better during the offseason, the Chiefs stood quiet because they were close up against the cap. Now is the time for the front office to make a splash and bolster their roster for the upcoming season. So, who should the Chiefs select with the No. 23 overall pick?

Michigan State CB Darqueze Dennard

The Chiefs are deep at cornerback, but Dennard is free falling. He has the accolades to back up his success on the field, as he was a unanimous first-team All American and the Jim Thorpe Award winner.

LSU WR Odell Beckham Jr.

The winner of the Paul Hornung Award, which is annually given to the most versatile player in the nation, broke the school’s all-purpose yard record (2,315) last season. Reid could maximize Beckham’s potential as he’ll be able to fill multiple roles. With return man Dexter McCluster gone via free agency, Beckham could be a dynamic threat for Kansas City.

USC WR Marqise Lee

Lee is a Biletnikoff Award winner (2012), and is one of the most explosive players in this draft. Despite a junior season hampered by injuries, Lee is a shifty receiver who can navigate through a defense and find open running lanes. While he didn’t show off immense straight-line speed in the 40-yard dash, Lee is known for his short-area quickness and lateral agility.

Missouri OLB Kony Ealy

The 6-foot-4, 273-pounder is an athletic freak. With a long frame, Ealy is able to track down the opposition with ease. The Chiefs already boast an impressive 1-2 outside linebacker duo in Justin Houston and Tamba Hali, but defensive coordinator Bob Sutton could get creative with Ealy’s unique skillset. You can never have too many players who can rush the passer.

Virginia OT Morgan Moses

The 6-foot-6, 314-pound tackle has outstanding size and strength. While he logged 43 starts during his days at Virginia, some draft analysts have noted that he’s a developmental project. Moses could be a bookend right tackle opposite last year’s No. 1 overall pick Eric Fisher.
