Falcons lose Gonzalez to right calf injury

Published Dec. 27, 2009 8:03 p.m. ET

Atlanta Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez strained his right calf late in the first half against the Buffalo Bills and will not return.

Gonzalez had two catches before suffering the injury, leaving him four away from 1,000 for his career. He limped off the field, obviously favoring his right leg.

Buffalo's Terrell Owens became the sixth player in NFL history with 1,000 career catches with his second catch of the game earlier in the second quarter.

Gonzalez was sitting on the sideline for the start of the second half.
