Falcons at Eagles: Game preview, odds, prediction

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

NFC rivals will battle in Philadelphia as the Eagles host the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday in NFL Week 10.

This Sunday matchup features two teams on opposite ends of the spectrum. The Atlanta Falcons come into the game as the overwhelming favorites after winning two straight, boasting a 6-3 record good for second best in the NFC. The Philadelphia Eagles cannot seem to catch a break after opening the season 3-0. This is a must win game for the Eagles, but it won’t come easy facing off against a proven Falcon team.

The Eagles have lost four of their last five games. Often times the offense has looked stagnant with poor receiver talent and a rookie QB in Carson Wentz, who came back down to earth. They have fallen behind three games to the division leading Dallas Cowboys and will need to make a stand Sunday to save their season. With an opportunistic defense that has eight interceptions, nine forced fumbles, and 23 sacks, the Eagles shouldn’t be taken lightly.

The Falcons have had more time to rest, not playing a game since last week Thursday when they defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They come into the game with two of the league’s best players in MVP candidate Matt Ryan, who leads in passing yards, and Julio Jones, who leads in receiving yards. Although the Eagles defense is stingy, Atlanta has the offensive firepower to exploit a secondary that has given up seven touchdowns in their last two games.

Odds

Point spread: Even

Over/Under: 50/50.5

The Eagles are one-point favorites when they face off against the Falcons in Philadelphia, according to OddsShark.com.

Prediction

Although the Eagles have an edge defensively, the Falcons would have to completely fall apart in order for them to lose this game. The Eagles will most likely get the edge on the ground with Darren Sproles taking a majority of the carries, but he will need some assistance. Although the Eagles have not lost at home this season, the chemistry between Ryan and Jones will ultimately prove too much for Philadelphia.

Pick: Falcons 31, Eagles 21
