Dolphins CB Richard Marshall out against Bengals

Published Oct. 8, 2012 4:53 p.m. ET

Nolan Carroll is starting at cornerback in place of the injured Richard Marshall for the Miami Dolphins' game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Marshall missed practice all week with a bad back, forcing the Dolphins to scramble their secondary for a game against one of the NFL's top pass-and-catch tandems of Andy Dalton and A.J. Green.

The Bengals had both of their cornerbacks active Sunday. Nate Clements (calf) and Leon Hall (hamstring) missed a win over Jacksonville last week. Clements returned but started at safety for the second time this season, with Terence Newman taking over at cornerback opposite Hall.

Defensive end Carlos Dunlap was active for the Bengals but wasn't in the starting line rotation. Dunlap missed the first two games of the season with a sprained knee.
