Stafford needed X-rays after eating seven sacks, 13 hits vs. Vikings

Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford got beat up during his team's 28-19 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 7. He weathered a season-high seven sacks and was hit 13 times, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.

After his fifth sack, per the Free Press, the training staff had to wrap up Stafford's left hand. He wore a glove on that hand for the remainder of the game and ended up getting X-rays on it afterwards.

"I think it's OK," Stafford said, via the Free Press. "We'll see."

During Monday's press conference, Lions head coach Jim Caldwell said Stafford's X-rays came back negative, per the team's senior writer Tim Twentyman.

Stafford played through whatever pain he was feeling and finished the game with 256 yards, two touchdowns and a 69.2 percent completion rate. Those aren't bad numbers, but they weren't good enough to beat the Vikings on Sunday.

Caldwell touched on the injury after the game, via the Free Press:

Obviously, (he) felt it and it was a little bit of an issue for him there for a little bit, so he's getting it looked at obviously to see what the extent of it is. But I asked him if he could function and he could function fine. But we couldn't take any pressure off him running the ball. We were not effective.

Stafford also took a beating the last time the Lions played the Vikings. Although he only ate one sack in that Week 2 loss, the Lions quarterback needed X-rays on his chest after that game.

Detroit's pass protection has been porous this year, but Minnesota's pass rush is downright vicious. Stafford should be happy that his Lions don't have to play the Vikings again in 2015.
