Lions' Glover Quin looks to keep Ironman streak alive in Week 13
Detroit Lions safety Glover Quin hasn't missed a game in a very long time. The last time he sat out a contest was in Week 13 of his rookie year (2009) due to a concussion, according to Josh Katzenstein of The Detroit News.
Now, heading into Week 13 of this year, his streak of 95 consecutive games played is in danger of ending. He suffered an ankle injury against the Philadelphia Eagles last week and has since been grinding to get healthy enough to play on Thursday against the Green Bay Packers.
"If my status would hurt the team, then I won't play," Quin said earlier in the week, per The Detroit News. "If I feel like I can go and it'll help the team, then I try to play."
Quin, 29, practiced on Monday and Tuesday, according to Lions senior writer Tim Twentyman, so hopes are that he'll avoid a setback and be able to play this week. If it comes down to playing through pain, the veteran safety is confident that he'll be on the field come game day.
"My pain tolerance is super high," he said, via The Detroit News. "I think in order to play in 95 consecutive you have to be able to fight through some injuries and pain because it's a tough league."
Quin, who played his first four seasons with the Houston Texans before signing on with the Lions, has played through plenty of injuries in the past. During his first season in Detroit, he tore a ligament in the same ankle that's bothering him now and did not miss a game.
He will need to show similar toughness for the remainder of this year.
