The Detroit Lions could be without their star linebacker for the remainder of the year.

DeAndre Levy will undergo hip surgery, head coach Jim Caldwell told reporters on Tuesday. No determination has been made if Levy will be placed on the season-ending injured reserve. Cornerback Alex Carter had the short-term IR tag placed on him earlier this season, so the team couldn’t use that designation on Levy.

Levy missed the first four games of the season because of a nagging hip issue and returned to the active roster against the Arizona Cardinals last year.

Levy inked a five-year deal with the Lions before the start of the season.
