DeAndre Levy selling sneaker collection to raise funds for charity

Detroit Lions linebacker DeAndre Levy has decided to part ways with his beloved sneaker collection in order to help those in need. He says he has sold or given away over 100 pairs of his collectable kicks, with all proceeds going to charity.

"I've done some unspeakable things to get some of these sneakers," Levy wrote in the caption of an Instagram post featuring 14 pairs of shoes.

The eBay account linked to Levy's Instagram account has some pairs going for up to $600. The money will go to Detroit Workers and Builders and The Empowerment Plan -- two organizations devoted to training and supporting the homeless -- as well as a third charity Levy has not yet named.

"The reasons why I invested time, money and energy into acquiring 150 pairs of shoes at one point, no longer aligns with the human I want to be," Levy told AOL, via Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. "There's more important things that I can direct that towards.

"It's been a conscious shift the past two years or so. It took a lot more years to get these shoes -- back to about high school. I was just placing too much value on things that didn't matter. In this particular case, sneakers."

Levy is already one of the best 4-3 outside linebackers in the NFL. Now, he's focused on becoming a better person off the field.
