Broncos QB Trevor Siemian ruled out of Sunday's game vs. Jaguars

Denver Broncos QB Trevor Siemian has been ruled out of Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, meaning rookie Paxton Lynch will make his second start.

Siemian had a career night last week against Kansas City, throwing for 368 yards and three touchdowns. But he was sacked five times and injured his left foot on the final one in overtime, keeping him out of practice all week. On Friday the team announced he would remain in a walking boot and not play Sunday.

The defending champion Broncos (7-4) are chasing a playoff spot after last week's loss to the Chiefs. Lynch lost to Atlanta in Week 5 when Siemian was out with a bruised left shoulder, getting sacked six times. He completed 23 of 35 passes for 223 yards with a TD and an interception.

“I’ll be a lot more comfortable out there than I was for the first time,” Lynch told the Denver Post on Friday. “I feel a lot more comfortable (now) than where I was when I started that game.”

Expect to see Lynch in the shotgun a lot Sunday. He's much more comfortable there rather than under center, where the Broncos have him lining up with one foot farther back to help with his raw footwork.

“We can’t afford to lose this game, period,” outside linebacker Shane Ray told the Post. “We couldn’t afford to lose last week’s game and we did, so I just think the mentality from here on out is we still control our destiny. We have to take control of every week and opportunities that we have, starting with Jacksonville. I think there is a sense of urgency on the team that we have to beat them.”

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Denver Broncos quarterback Paxton Lynch is hit by Atlanta Falcons defensive end Dwight Freeney during the second half.
