Damiere Byrd has speed, but is proving to be more than just a deep threat

Rookie Damiere Byrd has plenty of work to do in order to make the final roster of the Carolina Panthers, but apparently he’s impressed quite a few people along the way. According to David Newton of ESPN, Byrd is proving to be more than just a ridiculously speedy wideout.

"Damiere Byrd makes a one-handed, over-the-shoulder catch while skirting the left sideline. Byrd makes a nice catch deep over the middle on a slant route. Byrd cradles a deep pass down the right sideline."

"The best catches of the Carolina Panthers’ recent rookie minicamp didn’t come from second-round draft pick Devin Funchess. They came from Byrd, an undrafted rookie wideout from the University of South Carolina." Newton explained.

Byrd even acknowledged that his speed is eye-catching, but he’ll need more than that in order to be successful at the next level.

"Speed is definitely something that opens people’s eyes, catches their attention." Byrd told ESPN.

The competition at wide receiver is definitely tough this season in Carolina, but Byrd seems to have at least made some noise at this point in the offseason workouts.
