DeMarco Murray's advice to Ezekiel Elliott really touched Jason Witten

DeMarco Murray hasn't been a part of the Dallas Cowboys since 2014, but he's lending a hand to his former team's top draft pick -- running back Ezekiel Elliott.

Murray was one of the first people to send a text Elliott's way when the former Ohio State star was taken with the fourth pick in this year's draft. The Tennessee Titans running back, who led the league in rushing his last year with the Cowboys, had some advice for the rookie: stay close to veteran tight end Jason Witten.

When Witten caught word of Murray's compliment, he was overwhelmed.

"People talk about how precious the relationships of teammates are and the brotherhood and bond," Witten said, via ESPN. "I appreciate DeMarco's kind words not because he said it but the relationship we have. We had a short few years together and we maximized it. A lot of great shared sacrifices together. Ultimately he was able to have an offensive MVP year and I was just a small part of it. But for him to think I could influence it, I think that's why you invest the way you do. That's what teammates do."

Witten, a 10-time Pro Bowl selection, is one of the most respected players on the Cowboys, having spent his entire 13-year career in Dallas.

Though he hasn't had a lot of contact with Elliott, Witten likes what he's seen so far.

"With Zeke, we've had a good couple of conversations," Witten said. "I think we'll see how this relationship goes. Obviously there's high expectations, but I've been impressed."
