Cowboys' Gavin Escobar will wear special cleats to bring awareness to testicular cancer

Seven years after being diagnosed with testicular cancer, Dallas Cowboys tight end Gavin Escobar is trying to raise awareness of the disease.

Escobar, who had the tumor removed as an 18-year-old freshman at San Diego State, will wear cleats that have the messages “I survived” and “feeling nuts” on them when the Cowboys face the Vikings on Thursday.

"There were a couple slogans [to pick from], so I picked the feeling nuts one," Escobar said, via the Dallas Morning News. "I know they tried to get that to stick a couple years ago. I saw it and thought it was a good one."

NFL players are taking the opportunity this week to shine a light on personal causes as part of the league’s My Cause, My Cleats campaign.

Escobar, who is now cancer free, isn’t the only Cowboys player participating in the campaign. Ezekiel Elliott will be wearing cleats that raise awareness of animal cruelty and pet adoption.

Brandon Carr, Byron Jones and Terrance Williams will bring attention to the ongoing Flint, Mich., water crisis.
